Tell us your bold boss story!:
My sister and I own a curated gift box company with a twist! We provide 10% of proceeds from each box to one of our partner charities, attached to the theme of the box. Example: our wedding boxes are donated to Wish Upon a Wedding (amazing charity!!).
We got started in April 2017 (why does this seem so long ago?)! We planned for months ahead of time, drafting product ideas and detailing our business plan. My sister and I have had many a business idea that our mother has backed and this time she really made us do the leg work...definitely has helped! Over those months we connected with familiar and new charities to forge partnerships to create a community. We also found some amazing artists all around the US. We are proud that each of our boxes support small business owners across the US. Over 75% of items are from small businesses and over 85% of items are from US based companies. We like to call what we do "Gifting Joyfully" - you (or the giftee) get an amazing box that pays it forward to a charity and supports other small businesses - triple win here!
What inspired us? I work with startups everyday at my job at a local non-profit. Whenever I see a new one come in, I say to myself why didn't I think of that? So my wheels are constantly churning. Our parents are also entrepreneurs and each own their own businesses. One day my sister and I were chatting and about what I should do for my bosses for Christmas. I came up with a cute hot chocolate kit box. After running around to several stores, convincing my friend with amazing hand writing to write on the jars, and wrapping it up, I thought to myself, I would totally pay someone to do the leg work, and BAM Lily and Grey was born! We were raised with a sense of always paying it forward when we can, so including donations to charities just seemed a natural fit and a differentiation in the gifting industry.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
Our first big achievement was our first *stranger order*. Our family and friends have been very supportive of us, but when that first order came in and we had no idea who the person was, we finally thought to ourselves, this is real, people like our stuff!
Our most recent achievement was a stranger order for 12 bridesmaid boxes. This was the first bulk order we have had. We had so much fun working with the bride to create these boxes to ask her besties to join her on the big day.
