Tell us your bold boss story!:
Trust me when I say I know what it is like to change your entire routine in an effort to be the best version of yourself you can be. I have fought this exact same battle, and some days I am killin' it, and some days are still a struggle, but I am 100% better than I was before, and I have so much drive and motivation to help people make changes in their lives for not only their physical health, but also their mental health.
Have you ever sat and wondered, why the heck am I eating this garbage, I am not even hungry? Yeah, me too, I used to be the epitome of an emotional and stressed out eater. My portions were out of control, and I was gaining weight by the day - literally. I was in a horrible cycle of self-loathing and denial. In May, my world came crashing down around me when I couldn't fit into a single item of clothing in my wardrobe that didn't have lycra in it. I realized that I was living in yoga pants, and I was hating myself more and more every day because I was so unhealthy. I couldn't walk up the stairs without huffing, I couldn't play with my toddler without needing a break, I couldn't carry my twins without feeling pain in my back. I was an absolute mess.
On May 28th I started my journey to be a healthier me, and now 6 months later I can say that not only am I healthier and 57 lbs lighter, but I have developed habits and a lifestyle that has become a routine. Sure, I still drink more coffee than I should, and I still indulge in wine with my girlfriends, but I believe in simple and moderate. Making too many changes at once is overwhelming, and we want success, whatever your goal is - whether it is losing weight, making sure your family has healthy food available at dinner despite your busy life, prepping, planning, shopping better, getting healthier - whatever it is, you can benefit from a little nudge.
I am a registered social worker, and while I adore my profession, I have yet to find exactly where I fit in. My own personal journey showed me that I love helping people reach their goals, and as I walked my path I began to realize that health, nutrition, and emotions are deeply entwined. I started realizing that I had patterns and habits that were so unhealthy and they were directly related to my mood or state of mind. I know that this is true for so many people. I started talking to people about it and people began to say, you know I do that too. I know that unless we can truly understand the root causes of our habits and patterns that we cannot make sustainable change in our lives no matter how hard or how many times we try. My goal is to support people through understanding their feelings and emotion in relation to their unique relationship with food.
In August 2016 I began the Holistic Nutrition program offered through The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where I am learning about the principles of whole foods and how they impact our body, and how we can utilize them to bring our bodies and minds back to a healthier place. In pursuit of being a well educated and informed practitioner, I believe that the continual need to develop and learn is essential, and I can't wait to share my knowledge with everyone.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
The very best moments for me, are when I get word from a client that they don't feel ruled by food, or obsess about the scale. The moments when they feel freed of the pressure to achieve the unrealistic standard of perfection, and live in the present moment in their body! When they realize food isn't the enemy, and that they are worth of a positive relationship with food.
