Tell us your bold boss story!:
I am a mind-body nutrition and eating psychology coach! I got started as a personal trainer and CrossFit coach and quickly learned that people could use a lot of guidance I had not only from my education, but from my 20 years of competitive athletic experience. I discovered this area of passion that I was able to help other with... kinda like I can use all the help I can get with things like cleaning, financial planning, and web design, we all have our knacks lol.
One thing that has inspired me to continue on to helping other with both the fitness and now mindset side of health (relationship to food & body) is that I did a bodybuilding competition when I was 25, and it ended up being a really scary experience from which I walked away actually less 'healthy' than when I went in, and I was all messed up in the head with my body image and self-worth. I pursued fitness modeling for a few years after that, and continued to meet an industry where I was told I was too muscular, and was told I needed to either gain 20 lbs or lose 10 in order to 'make it' in Hollywood, where I was, of course, pursuing my dream.
After going through my own journey of letting go of restriction or constantly worrying about what I 'look' like, I now love helping women take on healthier habits in order to be the best version of themselves... not just to impress others/feel good enough/sexy enough/skinny enough etc. We navigate the line between wanting to feel good and also remembering that looks and exterior are ultimately temporary.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
Oh wow! Ok. Well, I would definitely say it was a bold boss moment that I followed my heart and moved to LA. I had just graduated college with a double major in Spanish Business and Africana Studies, and then packed up everything that would fit in my jeep, and moved to LA for modeling, dancing and acting! I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't have made that move. At the time, I didn't know if I'd be gone for 3 months, or 3 years... 7 years later, I'm still here in LA and have found the dream that was meant for me!
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:
I'm a huge personal development nerd. I love school. I love little aha moments that literally help me be a better me in the moment. One saying I kinda formed for myself is: "Change and obstacles are inevitable... Growth and positivity are optional." So that's to say that, if you feel uncomfortable or out on a limb as you're reaching for your dreams... good! That's usually where the best fruit is ;) #totesjustmadethatup #probablyhearditsomewhereactually
