There's a brand new feature for Facebook Groups... and we are PUMPED up! We're talking about Facebook Group Insights! I'm a self-proclaimed analytics nerd so this new feature is totallyyyy up my alley. So why is this a big deal? A few reasons! Despite the trend of some really large Facebook Groups shutting down recently, they're still a really great place to connect with others and as relevant as ever. So having this new feature will be really beneficial to group owners to help them curate and plan meaningful content for their members and build stronger relationships.

What Group Insights Offer

A whole lot! Inside the insights, you'll find analytics for group growth, top contributors, top posts.. and a whole lot more. Below we're going to go over some of the ones we are most excited about..

Some of the insights we're so excited about starts with the overview, which includes group growth, number of posts/comments/reactions/member details. We love these because it gives you an easy look at some of the key features of your group.

One of the most important parts of growing an engaged Facebook Group is making sure you're connecting with your audience! So what better way to do that then to take a look at the popular days and times for posts in your group? In the #BoldBossTribe Facebook Group, we have prompts for each day so that's important to keep in mind when looking at your popular days. Each Wednesday we do a #BoldBossTribe Mixer where members introduce themselves and connect with others, which is always a popular prompt. As well as Friday, where we do Follow Fridays. So it's not too surprising that Wednesday and Friday are some of our top days. There's a lot of factors that come into play with this depending how active your group is, but it is an easy way to take a look at some of the metrics and possibly decide switching up some of your content. Same goes for the timing of your posts. A lot of groups will post their prompts first thing in the morning, but from our chart you can see our most active audience is actually right around early afternoon.

Beyond the numbers for top days and times, one of our favorite metrics is the top posts. While you can certainly get this data simply from browsing your page, it's great to have everything neat and organized so that you can quickly review how you're doing. This section is so important because it easily allows you to see what posts those are interested in (or not interested in). Making it a lot easier to evaluate the success of your prompts/posts and plan accordingly.

Another feature we really love is a look at top contributors. It's a great way to look at who is engaged and even consider potential networking or partnership opportunities.

Why it Matters & How You Should Put Your Analytics to Work

So why do these Insights matter? It's all about optimization and streamlining your efforts. Facebook Groups are used for a variety of things but one thing is consistent -- bringing value to your audience. By having a quick and easy way to look at how your group is performing it allows you to really dive in and make sure your efforts are paying off for the goals you have for your group. Even more important, it allows you to see a bigger picture look at what is and isn't working. It's easy to notice when a post bombs here or there, but it's even easier to see a pattern when you have collective data in front of you. 

So how have you make your analytics work for you? Monitor them regularly! We like to review our other social media analytics thoroughly on a weekly basis (we like to let our posts perform a little bit before totally overanalyzing). Look at your metrics.. is your group growing at a pace you would like it to? What have been the most popular posts? Are there some posts that are just completely not working for you? Your engaged audience.. are new people showing up in your new contributors or is it consistently the same 5 people?

All of these things are important to consider. That way you can not only re-evaluate the content you are sharing but also make a bigger effort to engage others in the group and increase conversations. Facebook Groups are all about community and we're really excited about to dive into using the Insights and continue to grow and improve our own group as well!
