We are SO excited to share the launch of Portland food tour company, ZestyPDX with you for so many reasons! 1.) The founder of the company, Melissa is totally rad and we just love when we immediately click with clients. 2.) We're both obsessed with food adventures and 3.) The company is based in Portland, OR -- one of Anna's favorite cities! Mix all of those things up and you know it's going to be an awesome project already!
From our very first call with Melissa, you could just feel her passion not only for food and the history of the city, but bringing both together and creating a memorable experience. Growing up in the New Orleans area, food was an integral part of her upbringing and she learned early-on how it could bring others together. Fast forward a few years, and now she's decided to bring her years of experience in the touring industry and passion for food to Portland with her thoughtfully crafted tours. Her excitement about her business was truly contagious and we cannot tell you how happy it makes us to be a small part of the journey of those truly chasing their dreams. So now that we've had that semi-sentimental moment, #sorrynotsorry let's get down to the details of the project!
When it came to the design side of the project, we used the ZestyPDX logo as inspiration. We wanted to keep the design mostly neutral, by using black and white elements and letting the pictures to breath live into the pages. Here are a few other things we focused on:
- Create modern website that creates a fun experience for visitors and stands out in marketplace
- Design a website that appeals to a wide range of audiences -- both locals and visitors
- Focus on creating a user-friendly experience for all devices -- especially mobile
- Integrate a blog component
For the design of the homepage, we went with a scrolling parallax structure, which adds playful element and also translates well across different devices. We also added a slideshow on top of the first banner image to add another interesting element while also highlighting the different tours and pages. Another thing we did to tie the design together, was by creating custom graphics that incorporated elements from the logo design.
Something that was really important for this design was creating a website that stands out amongst other options in the area. While Portland is certainly a big city by many standards, it's still a tight market and we really wanted to create something different. Continuing along these lines, creating a powerful about page was something else that was really important because it's Melissa's personality, experience and taste that sets her apart from others! Trust us, talk to her for like 2 mins and you'll be ready to sign up for every tour she has!
Next up is the tours page! For this page, we also used a scrolling, parallax structure to make it easy for website users to scroll up and down and see all of the tours in one spot.
Then the last stop on our website tour (see what I did there 😉) is the blog page! This was another component Melissa was excited about so that she can highlight some of her favorite places in Portland and other food adventures! Here's a peek of one of the posts you'll find over there.
And that's a wrap! Can you see why we loved this project so much?! We dare you to go to her website and not immediately want to run to Portland to go on one of her tours too! Seriously though, this design is truly one of our favorites to date and Melissa is bomb.com! So if you find yourself in Portland, do yourself a favor and check out her tours!
